DCI: Statewide Shared Professional Development

Overview: The Directors’ Committee for Instruction brings together Instructional Technology experts from the 12 Regional Information Centers. This work group shares expertise, develops high-quality resources and ensures service consistency. DCI members collaborate to create a shared professional development catalog of virtual offerings  that are developed and facilitated by instructional leaders from each of the Regional Information Centers. These offerings are opportunities for teachers to develop their knowledge and skill sets in order to leverage technology that will enhance teaching, student engagement and student achievement.

On-Line Class: Flip Out! (Spring 2014)

Description: Flip Out! introduces educators to the Flipped Classroom concept whereby teachers deliver course content via digital media for homework, allowing time for the teacher to facilitate classroom activities that foster higher level thinking and differentiated instruction during class time. Flip Out! is divided into several Modules that will take participants through the steps to flip one's instruction. For each Module, participants will read various blogs and news articles, view brief video tutorials, and participate in social learning activities. They will practice using the tools needed to establish the infrastructure need to effectively flip one's instruction and will reflect on each skill, collaborate with colleagues, and share best practices. This course will require a commitment of at least 20 hours to successfully complete the various learning activities. There are no face-to-face meetings for this class. All interaction will take place on Blackboard between February 24 and April 4.

Description: Want to send text reminders, alerts or information to students and their parents safely and securely?  You can, and without knowing their cell phone numbers (and they will not know yours)!   This is possible with free services such as Remind101 and Celly, allowing you to text such things as test and event reminders, due dates, and more  - anything you need to communicate to students/parents quickly and effectively!   Remind101 provides one-way communication to many recipients over text or email, while Celly offers additional features such as moderated chat within a group and multiple-choice polling.   Communication instantly increases between the classroom and home with either of these services - and there are instructional uses as well!  You will receive instructions for joining the webinar through your mail account prior to the course.
